Eyelid Surgery

As skin ages, it gradually loses its elasticity. This lack of elasticity plus the constant pull from gravity causes excessive skin to collect on the upper and lower eyelids. This excess skin can cause wrinkles, bulges, and it can get in the way of seeing properly. Eyelid surgery, such as an eyelift or blepharoplasty, reduces bagginess and excess skin therefore giving relief to individuals. Many times this surgery is done for cosmetic reasons, but it is also a very effective way to improve sight for older people whose sagging upper eyelids get in the way of their vision.

Eye Muscle Surgery

Eye muscle repair is surgery to correct eye muscle problems that cause strabismus or crossed eyes. The main goal of this surgery is to restore the eye muscles to a proper position. It is most often done on children, however, adults with similar eye problems may also have it done. To strengthen a particular muscle, a section of the muscle or tendon may be removed to make it shorter and stronger. An eye muscle may need to be loosened, therefor by adding or lengthening a muscle, this goal can be achieved. Strabismus surgery loosens or tightens eye muscles, which changes the alignment of the eyes relative to each other.

Laser Treatment for Glaucoma, Diabetes, and Macular Degeneration

There are many people who are suffering from eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetes. To further help these individuals, there are various laser treatments to help control these eye conditions. Laser trabeculoplasty is helpful in treating people whose glaucoma continues to get worse in spite of medicine treatment. Laser photocoagulation is done to help reduce the risk of vision loss caused by diabetic retinopathy. It is also used to treat wet age-related macular degeneration only. Although these lasers may not restore vision that has already been lost, it may help reduce the risk of future vision loss.
